Spanish Lesson for Week of November 7, 2004

Learning by word association.

You can greatly increase your word retension by associating a new word with one you already know
either in English or Spanish.

Example:

GRACIA and GRACIOSO means FUNNY. But it sounds like GRACIAS (thanks), with a slightly different ending.

Next time when you try to think of how to say "this is funny", think of "gracias" and just change the ending to say "esto es gracioso", or "I don't think it's funny" is "yo no le veo la gracia." (Lit. I don't see the humour or what's funny about that)

GRACIA also means GRACE, as in graceful or flair or in a religious sense.

GRACIOSO also can be used to describe something as SWEET or CUTE or LOVELY
Example: "ella tiene una manera muy graciosa de reírse" means "she has a very cute/lovely laugh" (Lit. She has a very cute/lovely way of laughing)
