Spanish Lesson for Week of December 6, 2004
Lesson: Plurals (Part 2)
As mentioned
last time, all parts of a sentence change in the plural form: the
article, noun, and adjective.
However, there
are exceptions.
When do you
add an "s" or "es" to form a plural of a word?
1. When the
noun ends with an unstressed vowel, add an "s". Example:
lago (lake) become
lagos.
2. When the
noun ends with a consonant other than "s", add an "es".
Example: flor (flower) becomes
flores.
3. When the
noun ends with a stressed vowel, add an "es". Example:
inglés (Englishman) becomes
ingléses.
4. When the
noun ends with an unstressed vowel and "s", it doesn't change in
the plural form, it stays the same. Example, crisis stays
as crisis in the plural.
